Hi Brian -

In regard to your question:

I not remember if /etc/hostname needs to be changed, or if this gets
done during the reboot.

The host name change that you make to /etc/hostname.<interface>  in a
running session does
persist after reboot.  However, I'm pretty certain that the change does
not take affect for the
running session. Your procedure does include a reboot after changes, so
you are good to go.
