Hi,

In addition to the previous advice about the Grub menu docs, you might try this 
right away:

1. From the bootloader (GRUB) menu, type 'e' to edit. 
2. Then just press Esc key to exit. (don't actually edit anything just yet)
3. Power cycle the laptop.

I did this after installing next to windows and it fixed it. But, I was able to 
see the Windows entry in the menu at the time, so this may or may not work for 
you. For the debian, you likely need to edit the menu.list file to add it back, 
if in fact it is still on the box.
