And if you ask IE to display text/plain, or binary/octet-stream, the browser will laugh in your face and taunt you :) The hint is to return a content-disposition header from http:, although this is not an http: header, but a mime/smtp header. Or be certain the downloaded file ends in .txt to confound IE into believing it is *really*, *really* a text file.
