Bug ID: 70107
Summary: ABOUT_APACHE: ”Broken link” to
http://www.netcraft.com/survey/
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.5-HEAD
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
The last paragraph of the introduction of the ABOUT_APACHE file reads:
> The survey by Netcraft (http://www.netcraft.com/survey/) shows that Apache is
> today more widely used than all other web servers combined.
>
As reported in https://github.com/apache/httpd-site/issues/33, that pseudo-link
is basically broken, now pointing to Netcraft’s blog. I suggest either removing
the “link” or rephrasing to clarify how to access the latest results.
By the way:
1. It is good practice to avoid the word “today” in documents which are not
dated, preferring "as of YYYY-MM-DD" to make it easier to spot outdated
content.
2. The duplicating webpage (ABOUT_APACHE.html) is a whole lot less outdated
than the distributed file.
