SQL Server 2000 is ancient! That's 14 years ago :O

Are you sure that you downloaded a (relatively) new extension? Or is the
server really that old?

Consider that Doctrine does not support SQLServer 2000 since ~2005
(doctrine 1.x): http://www.doctrine-project.org/jira/browse/DDC-1558
