Richard,

MacOSX Mountain Lion has a security feature that prevents non-Apple approved 
developers from opening after installation. Either go into System Preferences 
then Security & Privacy and change the settings to allow downloaded from 
"anywhere". 

OR Once installed bring up an "open" option and hold down the fn key while 
clicking on OPEN. This will give the usual warnings about downloaded do you 
wish to open it as in previous version of Mac OSX in other words go OK.
 
On Mac OSX Mountain Lion every update you manually down load this security 
feature will require you to do either of above.
