OK- so I went back to my friend regarding his question, and confirmed that the question was well beyond just this.
In this case he is currently in a regulated industry (medical software), so what is really being asked would be regarding FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) regs (and an EU set of regulations that mirror those) that go well beyond what would be covered in a guide on the basic software. What I did was go over the basic features: Template support, Cell Data Validity functions, change tacking/logging in a final document and digital signing of documents. I think gives him the basic information he was looking for.
