Paul:
Are you using styles when you do this? The Presentation styles
include title, subtitle, and Outline. It is the latter that you need to
use to properly format your presentation. I have a file which you could
see how this works. (It was made when OpenOffice 2.0 first came out,
but it still has the basics. I can upload it to the NextCloud if you
want to download it for whatever use you find for it.

Hello Paul
Version 7.0 of the Impress Guide will be available shortly. I am just
waiting for reviews of the chapters and I can then publish the user
guide.
In Impress there are Presentation styles and Drawing styles.
Presentation styles cannot be deleted or renamed and are used when
you create slides using one of the Impress layouts. However, you can
modify the style to suit your requirements.Impress layouts use
AutoLayout text boxes.
Drawing styles are a little more flexible as you can create new ones.
Drawing styles are used when you create a text box using the Insert
Text Box on the Standard toolbar or the keyboard shortcut F2.
You cannot delete the drawing styles that are part of the Impress
installation, but you can modify them.
Not sure what you mean with parent item 1 and so on.
Presentation styles are used for Outline styles and the default
format is for bullet points. They go from Outline 1 to Outline 9.
Is this what you mean by parent item 1?
To create another line without creating another bullet (outline)
point, use Shift+Enter when dealing with Presentation styles. The
indent of the line is the same as the bullet point, but there is no
actual bullet point. This is the same as creating a line break
instead of a new paragraph.
Working with text, you need the Text Formatting toolbar or the
options available in Format on the main menu bar. If the Text
Formatting toolbar does not appear when working with text, go to View
> Toolbars on the main menu bar and select Text Formatting.
Let me know if this helps you.

Hi Peter
Fixed the issue with text formatting box
By parent bullet point I mean the first bullet point in a list or the
2nd the parent is the one that is directly before an indented bullet
point
sorry I *do not know* the correct terminology for all this. To me
they are bullet points with some points indented further if they are
related to the one above (hence i was calling the parent bullet point)
in a similar way you have a parent - > child processes on Linux.
I will try the ctrl-enter thing later.
