Both the 2.7 and the 3.2, predecessor to the 3.5, were designed for and
sold in the 1998 LH cars, all done and completed before the Daimler-Benz
takeover.

The 3.2/3.5 design is derived from the 3.5 that was introduced in 1992
with the original LH cars; which in turn was based on the block of the
3.3; all wholly designed by Chrysler.

The origin of the design of the 2.7, I don't know...other than its being
pre-Daimler. I have heard the Mitsubishi story, too. Does anyone know
of its being used in any purely-Mitsubishi cars not sharing its platform
with a Chrysler product?
