My '96 Intrepid ES (3.5L 24v) has 150K (+/- 1K) on it and is starting
to become a problem. I was having steering issues with it, looseness
and wandering. I had the inner tie-rods replaced, and that helped a
bit. I am told that I need to replace the upper and lower
cradle/motor mount bushings as well, which is going to cost me another
$500. The car steers much better with the tie-rods replaced, and I
know that the cradle bushings will not make the cradle "fall off while
I am driving" (quote from the Firestone mechanic, what a [EMAIL PROTECTED]), so
i am not real concerned about them. However, I am also only getting
about 12mpg in the city driving that I do. When I bought the car @
80K mi it was getting about 18/25 city/highway mileage. The car
rarely sees the highway anymore as we drive my wifes fuel sipper (2005
Hyundia Elantra w/ 5-speed manual). I have heard from
Dodgeintrepid.net that there is a sensor somewhere that can make the
mileage go down significantly. Is this true. I really like this car,
with the leather interior, infinity sound and decent motor. However,
I cannot afford 12 mpg. So, any helps you all can offer me? Thanks.
