The trans fluid leak...been there, done that. I was able to take a pair of Craftsman cutters, lop off the swollen section of hose, and then put the shortened hose back over the radiator nipple. You might find you're in a similar situation -- the hose has deteriorated at the connection point, increasing the I.D., causing the leak. A more proper fix would be to replace the entire hose, but it will be expensive, since that hose mates to a steel line running back to the transmission. If you're truly cheap like I am, you could remove the crimped connection between the rubber and steel lines and replace with a fresh length of rubber hose and hose clamps. You'd have better luck if you flared the steel line if you tried this.
As far as the A/C compressor noise is concerned, you've either got a bad belt or a bad compressor or clutch. My belt went bad, and it would howl when the clutch was activated. But if you can't turn the center portion of the clutch with your fingers (engine OFF!) then the compressor is seized. If it turns freely, the belt is in good shape and is tight, then it's the clutch. Either way, clutch or compressor, replace the entire thing as a unit. It's a relatively simple job to tackle yourself, provided you have somebody properly discharge the system before you start, then evacuate it for you before you recharge it. Not sure if replacing a receiver/dryer is called for with compressor replacement; you might be well advised to do so. --Geoff On 4/27/06, Gabriel D.
