If you can reliably get it to start just by wiggling the shifter around,
then it's likely a simple fix.  You probably either have a misadjusted
shifter cable, or a defective neutral safety switch.  Depending on your
ability, these are things you could repair at home.

If you can't get it to start right away every single time by doing this,
however, you will likely have to take it in for diagnosis.  You might have
problems with fuel delivery or sensors.
