You are exactly right as for the power of the 5L. I was looking at
getting a mockup motor for putting my final 350 in there but I bought
the entire donor car for almost half the cost of a mockup.

Because this is a long term project and is stored outside I did not
look forward to having my final motor sitting out there that long.
This motor means nothing to me but will allow me to get everything
going and mounted. 

Switching from this 5L to a 350 is nothing, a weekend at most. I have
a lot of work with the rear end that will keep this car outside the
entire winter.

that was the right thinking, a 5L is not any better than a 3.5 stock.
