The good news is that this problem is more than likely cheap and easy 
to fix.  You need a new "blower motor resistor".  It'll cost about $40 
from the dealer.  I'm not sure where it is in the LH cars though.

it *could* be a different problem, but this resistor failure is the #1 
cause of this problem.

Unless, you have automatic climate controls.  That'd be a different 
story.
