Hi, my 2001 Intrepid ES seems to have developed a fault in the starter. Turn the key and you can tell the electricity is there as there are electrical sounds, but the starter motor doesn't activate. If you do it a few times the starter will eventually activate and the car starts fine. It is intermittent in that sometimes it takes maybe a dozen tries, other times it activates maybe second try.
It started with the motor activating on the second attempt and gradually it seemed to get worse. My garage cleaned some of the electrical connectors and it seemed ok for a little while (a day or two) but the problem came back. Then they replaced the starter motor (ouch!) and again it was ok for a day or two and then the problem came back. Anyone seen this problem before or have any ideas? It is as if a capacitor in the circuit is dying but I don't know if there is one..
