Keep in mind regarding oil levels in VW derivative engines that the dipstick is
designed to be accurate when the motor is level. When the tail is sitting on
the ground 1/2 on the dipstick is will equate to full with the tail up and
engine level

HOTTER!!!

Hi All,
Thnx Nige for getting the Dimona Users Group up and
chatting again. Its a shame not to share experiences
between fellow operators.

While operating a Super Cub as a glider tug for many
years we learned to keep the oil level lower as it had
a significant impact on keeping the oil temps at an
acceptable level.

Our Dimona has a spin on oil filter (camry) approved
mod developed by Nigel and Rob I believe. I think its
due to the dramatically increased surface area of
braided hose lines and filter surface area and that we
dont fill above halffull on level ground, that we
suffer from oil temps more often being low. Winter
requires partial covering of the oil cooler.

On the matter of fluid levels varying with attitude,
I've found a significant variation in dip stick
accuracy depending on how the aircraft sits. Tail high
= overread, tail low - underread. On our 60lt tank
this can make a difference if you arent mindful.
Anyone else have the same? Possibly the 80lt tanks
arent as affected.
