G'day Laurie and others.
Nigel,
You can't just refer to your recent trip to the Gulf without telling us
about your Glory experiences there! Which other H36s went?

Well as you asked we had a good time.
We took the scenic route up via Port Augusta, Glendambo(overnight).
Cadney(overnight), Alice Springs(overnight). Tennant Creek and last stop
Daley Waters Hotel(overnight then to Burketown via Borraloola.
Great trip up but held up waiting for a storm to go through Alice before we
could push on to Alice.

Missed the best glory unfortunately when it went through while we were
waiting for the Car to return from delivering other pilots to the airfield.
It was about 20mins before first light.
When it returned we told the driver that we were all going beck to bed as we
had missed it.
That is Russell White (G109) Brian and Paul (H36 from Byron Bay) and us.
Big mistake. He took off with the car not to return while we watched
heartbroken as the glory's kept coming.
I think there were 9 in all. We then watched all the other SMART motor
glider pilots launching at first light climbing into something like cloud 5
over our heads. Very depressing.
Otherwise it was fun. We did get 2 rides thankfully and of course did a lot of relaxing
mixed into our busy schedule of doing nothing.
Had breakfast one morning at Sweers Island when there was no glory and
generally enjoyed our early morning flights in smooth air into the gulf
watching the sunrise. It really is a great way to start the day.

On field were 2 HK36 Dimona's from Caboulture, The H36 fitted with the
Sauer Engine from Byron Bay and a H36 from W.A. owned by a new member to our
list Michael Grimwood.
In all at one point we had 10 Motor Gliders on the airfield. Thus the place
was abuzz every morning before first light.

Was it worth the effort? probably not.
Are we going again next year? Of course.

Cheers.
Nige.
