Hi all.
At present the Diamantina and Warburton are flowing strong for the
first time in quite a while. This has originated from the heavy rains in QLD.
As a result Lake Eyre is now filling. This happens roughly every 10 years. If
it goes to full it then goes over the spillway to fill Lake Eyre South. Both
fill about once every century.
Now Birdlife from all over and from thousands of K away are moving in
for the fishing so the place is starting to team with wildlife.
Heather and I were planning to get away for Easter but are now
considering changing our plans as to our location.
So is anyone interested in a Safari. I would suggest either William
Creek or Maree for an overnighter. Distance out to the lake from Maree is
further but less distance to get there although we have to get fuel from the
town. William Creek is a colourful place and closer to go out to the Lake. If
there are a few interested I could have a go at getting a 4WD coming up from
Adelaide as backup for stores etc and fuel if needed depending on the route we
take in the Dimona's. If we took a 4WD I would suggest William creek (has
Avgas) as we could then go out to the lake by track and see it all up close.
Once in a Decade Chance.
With Global warming maybe more than a Decade.
Any Takers?.
Don't hold back now.
Cheers.
Nige.
