Hey Nige, you covered it pretty well. A mail loop can be a scary thing: two mailservers replying to each other, hammering away as fast as they can go. It can generate a lot of emails in a short time, and that makes it pretty noticeable.
As Nige says, we could stop it by unsubscribing the person concerned. If you ever see something like that happening, best thing would be to let a list admin know ASAP. That'd be Nige (you probably know how to find him) or the list owner - currently it's me, but they will always be reachable at [email protected] Autoresponders are usually smart enough to ignore mailing-list messages. Even though Royce's does reply to this list, it doesn't seem to reply to its own messages, and it hasn't caused a mailing loop so far. Royce, when you see this, perhaps you could check with your email provider, and ask if the autoresponder could stop replying to this list? Cheers all...
