Hi Hannes,
I thought a response from me may help. I have recently installed a 2400 Limbach EB-1 into a Grob 109 and am currently working on a Dimona. I guess the most obvious thing regarding using a Jabaru engine is that you would be unloading a huge can of worms filled with fishhooks. It has been bad enough installing the L2400 (600plus hrs work). New Cowl design, baffle design, engine mount design .... not a good idea at all. You would have a permanent headache. Prior to installing the L2400, the Grob used the L2000 EB-1 engine , the same as the Dimona. I did install new heads on it at an earlier time (the engine was removed/replaced because of a cracked case). The engine had done only 450hrs SMOH but the heads were really stuffed (can send U a pic). I got to know a specialist VW cyl head dude here in Auckland. We went off and selected a couple of cyl hds from one of the vw after market dealers and he fly cut them to identical dimensions as the original L2000 hds. Plus installed new stainless valves and reprofiled the chambers a little. The end result was excellent. The L2400 in the grob has transformed it. We have completed the test flying and should have the STC approved in a couple of weeks There are a few things though. Refer to the Limbach tech notes as the exhaust guides are remachined. Also there are details of the Limbach recommended valve cutting angles. Of course the heads I used were not approved so the risk factor of using them was there. Nigel Baker from South Australia is the Limbach agent is OZ and would help for sure with Limbach heads . He has considerable experience with Limbach engines obviously. The key thing with the Limbach engines is keeping them cool. Make sure the baffles are as tight as a fish's bum. Also the older engines with the type 1 case do move around a lot and especially after a head job, seem to need the tappets checked every few hrs initially. John Callahan in Victoria has a Dimona with an L2400 engine which is a Korff conversion. It has a really neat lower air exit duct which clips on to the existing gill bracket fittings. Ian Mac has a similar installation for his engine Hope is of some help Best regards Ian WIlliams From: Maree, Hannes [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 13 July 2010 2:59 a.m. To: [email protected] Subject: [DOG mailing list] FW: [DOG mailing list] Motor Oil Hi Guys, This is my first time on the dog mailing list. Thanks for the opportunity to tap into the list. I am in the process of overhauling my Limbach 2000 EB, but have difficulty finding new heads for the engine. Do anybody know if a Jabiru have been successfully used to replace a Limbach on a Dimona. It seems that it can be an ideal replacement in terms of cost and availability. Any ideas, info will be much appreciated. Best Regards to all Hannes Maree This email and all contents are subject to the following disclaimer: www.lonmin.com/emaildisclaimer
