Hi all,

The "restoration" of the ex Thai Dimona ZK-GCB has unearthed some issues
which age has modified.

Specifically, there are approx 80 rivets securing one aileron to the wing.
The hinge is stainless and uses aluminium rivets through a glass / carbon
layer into a 15mm alloy strip inside the aileron.

It would appear the Thais had the ailerons off this aircraft and when
replaced used standard aluminium rivets. Being dissimilar metals, there was
significant corrosion under the glass/carbon layer and the 15mm aluminium
strip. (now repaired)

However my question is the type of rivets .. The Dimona maintenance manual
says use Cherrymax CR 2248-3 (1/8 "dia) or Avdel Rivets Type 4002/3.2 *
7.1 A1 LN 9314 (3.6mm dia)

While that sounds quite specific, Spruce and specs show as stock ..

CR2248-4-3 . I think the 4 represents 1/8" dia. And the 3 is the length
.. However that rivet is countersunk and the ones I removed were standard
Univ type heads.

The hinge does not seem set up for CSK rivets. Has anybody actually had
the ailerons off their aircraft and if so what rivet type were used on
reinstallation.

Best regards
