Hey Nigel....how do the Hoffman props after being overhauled (and presumably
static balanced) shape up up on your dynamic balancer?

Yes Ian I know only too well.
That is why I bought one of these
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/dynavibe.php
Propeller balance is the prime and pretty much the only reason the Limbach
L1700 and L2000 Crankcase cracks.
Good balance and the case goes to TBO.
The more out of balance and the sooner the case cracks and thus well short
of TBO.
Lets not forget all the other issues that come from engine vibration
generally.
Cheers.
Nige.

I
realise this is a dimonia web site and this is about a falke with L2000 and
fixed pitch prop

Trevor Mills a LAME from Cobulture (Owns a RF5)  called in from his
around AUS trip in RV8 flying from Broken Hill to home and put his dynamic Prop
balance on Falke and in 5 goes he has transformed Falke from a cattle track to
a
Merc - there is ZERO vibration {and I mean ZERO) in the stick and if I were
deaf
then I would not know the engine was running.

In past I have done static balance but this is hugely better.  It now
has 3 big washers under one screw and 2 under another

So I have learnt something.  Years ago I static balanced PIK prop and
it made huge difference

Also should add over the last 3 weeks the Limbach has been hard to start
bit like it was little flooded.  The fault turned out to be no or not
enough oil in carby damper. My friend did the oil change etc while I was in
Tassie in May and probably did not check oil I guess'  Anyhow the plugs
have had an oven cleaner clean -perfect and now falke starts in <1sec instead
of coughing and farting to get started

So now we have 3 motorgliders without a single vibration - when you have
prop balanced you wonder why you put up with previous vibration .

I should say Trevor charged me nothing for the balancing - he just wanted
to see the smile on my face after my first flight
