Hi Ian,
We didn't send photos of the inspection holes. What you are thinking of is the
lower section of the spar tunnel that Nigel removed to gain access to the
drooping plywood underneath that was starting to rub against the elevator push
rod.

The H36 has 4 compartments above the spar tunnel and behind the upper seat back
that need inspecting.
Tap along the top of the spar tunnel with a coin and you can hear where they
are. Drill 2 x
12-14mm holes in the middle of each
compartment. Use a drill with a right angle attachment or a die grinder
on a flexible extension. The upper spar tunnel is mostly plywood with a
few layers of glass on the bottom so you will go through it very
quickly. Poke your light up one hole and your camera up the other.

Make sure you are drilling in the right spot!...if you drill into the
structural side walls that separate the compartments you are up the creek!

ENDOSCOPE
The Jaycar $40 endoscope is suitable for the 3000 hour inspection - make
sure you get the one that is on a stiff gooseneck that can be formed to
shape. There is another one that just comes on a floppy lead that won't
do the job.

 LIGHTING
The cheap endoscopes need good lighting.

We used a super bright button LED (Jaycar cat#  ZD-0445) which did the job very
well.

The LED does need a heatsink. Drill appropriate small holes at the end
end of a length of narrow aluminium flat bar then use lockwire to mount
it with silicon paste. This will fit through a 12-14mm hole

The
LED needs 3.3 volts and the brightness drops off rapidly below this. We
 used 3 x 1.2v AA NMh rechargeables. I am not sure if 2 x 1.5v AA
alkalines would quite get the LED to maximum brightness. You can also
buy a switched battery holder pack from Jaycar.
