RELAX NIGEL as it must be the heat in SA & seasons greetings down there.

I was at Eric Weston last week and border town Keith (or was it Murray
Bridge) prop was being painted. Maybe ask them. Also XOO came back few
weeks ago & we fitted today.

One of ours was done in Germany earlier this year & Eric was not happy so
it went back to Germany and then we got a huge bill. Norm Sanders hit
Hoffman with German consumer law in both English & German & invoice came to
a respectable $3000 inc freight to and from Germany.

That prop was perfect & I mean it.

I go to gulf and back via Proserpine in early Sept and prop was perfect
(but slick 4320 failed & electronic ignition saved us but that's another
story ) Brian Marshall went up on 23rd Sep no issues up but on trip home
it started throwing out again on return trip. This happened 12 months
earlier with brian & we sent to eric & was there 3 months & had a new boss
fitted.

This time I point blank refused to sent it back to eric yet again and this
time I spent guess 1 ½ hrs going back and forward comparing props. I then
noticed the slide out had a different mark on each slide. I removed our
slide and then polished the slide with 3 grades of emery paper & bingo
totally fixed.
For some reason ours was not going out far enough & thus slide slipping
back. Why? I then discovered Brian was not waiting till the prop was all
but stopped before he feathered. I hang glider on the nose until prop is
real slow then SLOWLY pull prop back. Also he was pulling far too much
back & no wonder he had prop issues.

All I say you MUST do perfect prop changes ALWAYS & if in doubt READ THE
MANUAL or check with others. Too many donkeys have not got a clue about the
prop.

Good on you Nige!

I would much rather that you posted "Merry Christmas to All and have a
great Holiday Season"! So I have.

The forum has been a bit quiet though so here are some questions for the
Brains Trust.

There is some H36 performance data that I can't seem to verify from the
Manual and get mixed answers from Mr Google.

I have been doing some calcs on glide range at Camden under onshore and
offshore area wind conditions. We typically would climb to 6-7000' on our
Air Experience Flights which puts us some distance form the airport.

After 12 or 13 years of regularly flying YT and enjoying plenty of soaring
in it I've come to consider that around 250fpm sink at best L:D (26:1?) was
close to the mark. Others talk about 300fpm. YT is very well finished and
sealed and I think that Rob and Nige may have done some wing reprofiling at
the rebuild so it may well be that it is an exception.

A min sink rate of maybe 200-220fpm

Tom posted an HK36 polar some while back but I haven't been able to track
down a polar for the H36.

I'd appreciate any comments. Where is JV when you need him!

Regards
Laurie Hoffman

Hi All.
I had my Prop overhauled in early 2009.
It had the Studs updated to 8mm.
This involved changing the studs. The stud bases which they screw into and
run through the nylon bushes in the Spinner backing plate. The nylon cup
sleeves that support the springs. Larger springs. And the Nylon Guide block
bolted on the hub. This was not a cheap exercise. Now I look at the list
and see an updated bulletin. WTF. Has anybody recently had their prop
overhauled that can enlighten me. Changing the Spinner Backing plate and
adding different bearings to the hub etc etc etc looks like more big
expense. Any idea’s guys.
See attached and look at the numbers and dates.
Nige.
