G100UL Approved Now What?<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibIkuyBL9i8>
On September 1, 2022, the FAA finally approved the first unleaded 100-octane
aviation fuel, GAMI's G100UL. Now things get complicated as companies have to
figure out how to market and distribute the fuel in a universe where 100LL
hasn't been prohibited yet and is still the dominant piston fuel. This short
video summarizes the market overview an ...

Hi Ric....

Maybe that has something to do with Kwinana closing.

Caltex and Ampol say their fuel is just <1% benzine and "natural gasoline"
...... I am not sure what that actually means but I would like to think they
are being truthful and it is only what comes from crude oil distillation.

Soup indeed! I am not trusting any fuel if it isn't fresh. I only buy from high
volume outlets and drain out any fuel more than a few weeks old and add it to
the fresh fuel in my car.

g'day Rob

our (bp) refinery shut down here at Kwinana so we get all our fuel imported.
(the one refinery did all the brands bp,ampol, caltex, mobil etc) we now have
fuel coming in from all over the place so god knows what sort of soup we are
getting. particularly with more little "cheap" brands like atlas, puma, vibe,
better choice, united etc. luckily the mogas bowser at the club airfield is
still being supplied by bp so although not perfect at least we should have an
idea of whats in it.

G'day Everyone,

I just did a check of the Material Safety Data Sheets (attached) for the major
98 RON fuel brands in Australia and a few things have changed.

All the brands have up to 1% Benzine but....

BP and Shell are loading their fuel with hexane, toluene, xylene, napthalene
and ether....basically paint thinners which boost the RON rating but evaporate
quickly...starting as soon as they leave the refinery. As they evaporate your
fuel goes stale quicker. I once had some Shell fuel which started to detonate
after only 5 weeks of storage.

Ampol and Caltex are selling fuel with only Benzine and natural Gasoline. This
means a longer shelf life and less prone to fuel going stale and detonation. BP
used to do this but not any more.

Cheers
Rob
