I've solved the problem by removing all libboost versions <1.38, with the exception of libboost-program-options1.38 libboost-test1.38 and libboost-signal1.38 that are required by some kde or gnome stuff Then I've installed all 1.40 versions. Note that the libboost*-dev that I have are only from 1.40 versions. I've also removed old boost.pc files. Hope it helps.
