I have added experimental support for restricted function spaces. It is currently only implemented for cell-based restrictions but the plan is to extend to subspaces on boundaries etc.
The implementation involves renumbering the dofs on the subsets of the cells included in the restriction and modifying the DOLFIN UFC wrappers to instantiate a function space from a restriction rather than a mesh.
