The jaxp.jar might (and I say might) be hardwired
to use crimson. If you look inside it, does it have any files in
META-INF/services/* ?
It might be worth trying to use xmlParserAPIs.jar
rather than jaxp.jar with xerces.jar on your path and seeing if that
works.
Also as described a little here...
you could set the system property
org.dom4j.versbose to 'true' to see a more detailed reason for the failure to
use JAXP.
