I agree it's a good idea to provide links to javadocs of older releases (or at least, the last stable release). However, the dom4j website is generated by maven, so things has to be changed to the javadoc generation. I know it's possible, for example http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/collections/ contains older javadocs which are generated by maven. I don't know the details, but they added some extra code to maven.xml. If I had time, I could look at it right now, unfortunately, I don't have much free time... if you would like to see this added to dom4j very fast, feel free to submit a patch so I can commit it and regenerate the website :-)
... or maybe you could give dom4j 1.5 a try ... :-)
