SOAP is an XML encoding of a remote proceduire call (RPC) which could be
synchronous or asynchronous and which may occur over any transport protocol,
though usually HTTP is used.

UDDI is an XML registry API for looking up resources and services. Its close
to being an XML API to LDAP and other directory services.

ebXML is an XML encoding of business level interactions between businesses,
so its an encoding of purchases orders and such like. Its currently built on
top of SOAP and UDDI.

So all of the above are encodings of XML and AFAIK are all supported by MS,
Sun and IBM. Certainly SOAP and UDDI are supported by most players these
days. I'm not sure if MS are into ebXML yet though I suspect IBM are
already.

Subject: [dom4j-user] General Question !!

Hi,
As I am doing my project on xml conversion for our b2b portal...few
things come to my mind. Could any one clarify ?

How does UDDI, ebXML and SOAP relate to each other ?
Are these 3 standards the same or they work in tandem with each other ?
Are they replaceable with each other ?

I got quite confused as to where to put which technology from the
webcontent...
For eg. Microsoft supports SOAP, it also backs UDDI.
           SUN talks only about ebXML
           IBM supports UDDI, SOAP.

Where r we with respect to these standards ?

Pls. clarify.

Thanks in advance,
Balaji
