I particularly like this from the release notes:

"Email marketing is not spam when it is from a trusted source, offers a legitimate opt-out mechanism and is CAN-SPAM compliant."

Yeah, that was written by a spammer if I've ever seen it. Better yet is a little further down:

"The services require that you gain your customers permission. This can be achieved by:

* Explicit permission: Opt-in from your website, "join our mailing list link, during an online purchase, storefront, in-person forms, etc. * Implicit permission: Requests for information / registration forms, existing customer relationship

Please Note: Always make sure to ask for permission to add your customer to your list when collecting information from registration forms, tradeshows, etc."

So, first you say that you need explicit or implicit permission, then you say "but please get explicit permission". Which one is it? Make up your minds.

Tucows: This is a terrible move. Please kill this before you lose whatever credibility you still have left. This is spam, plain and simple, I don't care how many rationalizations you're making, and you're going to wind up getting a big black mark against your name, and the names of everyone who does business with you, for a very long time, in a very large number of people's minds.
