In general the test/horizon environment doesn't send emails, but in this rare case, it does! :) You should have received something from Geotrust to approve the test cert, but there's probably some other factor involved with the email like aggressive spam filters. As far as testing you code goes, sounds like it's working since you were able to get the order rolling.
