I think .eu is taking a more eurocratic approach to things given the
oversight it gets.

I have read these articles but surely its the same as .com?
Lots of registrars have multiple shell companies and multiple accreditations
for drop catching .com domains.
I don't see anything particularly new with .eu.

My anecdotal evidence is that a lot of the registrations we handled were
defensive.
Some were instead of .uk due to the all the .eu hype and this seems to be
shifting back.
Some were for SEO things because search phrases were available with hyphens.

It will be interesting to see how many renew next year.
With it being a one year registration period renewal rates will be an even
greater measure of success.

We did quite well out of .eu over the weekend because at least one of the
big UK registration companies stopped taking new applications just at the
point when everything started working properly.
We did not register a huge number but some of those customers have shown
their gratitude by bringing us other business since which has made it very
worthwhile.
I am trying to differentiate us as "domain experts" anyway. We do have a lot
of expertise with some of the unusual extensions and I am going to expand
our range to include as many as possible so we are different from the rest
of the crowd.
We won't sell many of them but it will make us look different and hopefully
better.
