I considered getting into this a few years ago and the cost of being signed
by one of the trusted root certs (so we could issue chain certs like Comodo
or Godaddy) was going to be around $100,000.
If we had done it we could have made our money back selling domains at $50
to $100, but since then the "street price" on certs has dropped and we would
have been in serious trouble (given the substantial development costs
involved).

It is very difficult to justify high cert prices when end users see Godaddy
doing a three year cert for $57.
The only reason I get away with it is that we handle all the installation
and provide an IP address for the site.
This simplifies the whole process for customers but its still leaving us
only making $10 on the Geotrust certs.
