So you are in fact in better shape when Tucows buys the name than when the name drops and is picked up by someone else where you have no relationship. It's VERY rare these days for names to go back to the registries to be put back into the pools. Almost all domains that expire are now bought by SOMEONE. Hope that helps to clarify.
