I too received the E about the Adopt-A-Soldier program, and then saw a
mail from the same sender that was nothing but Happy.exe as an
attachment.

Since I know all about Happy.exe, I promptly deleted the message without
opening the attachment. So no harm done here.

Since there are probably lots of folks on the list who aren't computer
science majors, let me pass along what I know about viruses and Email,
which ain't much, but it seems to work.

You can not get a virus simply by opening an email message. An email
message is just a bunch of text (or html). You can get a virus from an
attached file however, if you open the attachment. So just like with the
green mayo in the back of the fridge, when in doubt, throw it out.

Also, if you don't have a virus checking and repair program like Norton
AntiVirus, or McAfee, or whatever - GET ONE. And be sure it works as a
plug-in to your intrnet browser (Netscape or Explorer). I use Norton,
and when I get an attachment, even from a trusted source, I save it
before I open it, and Norton automatically checks it for viruses BEFORE
it is saved to disk, let alone opened. The importance of having good
virus protection software cannot be overstated.

These two simple things have kept me from ever getting a virus in nearly
4 years of surfing the net, and doing Email.

Anyway, sorry to run off at the mouth about non-Doobie stuff, but hey,
we should all be helping each other, right?
