Hello ,
Although I didn't have the opportunity to listen to the
Doobies on Rockline,
comments on this list in the past few days lead me to believe Pat
somehow spoke positively of Ricky Martin.
If so, some additional information might be helpful in
understanding and appreciating his opinion----besides, if anyone's
qualified to express a musical opinion, it's Pat.
Look in the liner notes and songwriting credits listed on
Ricky's hit cd.
Notice "Desmond Child" created the music and lyrics to most of the
songs.
Who's Desmond ?
Desmond Child is rock's premier behind the scenes
songwriter and in and of himself a hit writing machine for over twenty
years.
On stage with his own band Desmond Child and Rouge
featuring female vocals in the late '70's, he later spent much of the
1980's penning many widely popular tunes for Bon Jovi---in large part
personally defining the sound of the '80's. Other credits include
several songs for KISS ( fire breathing Gary the Limey Doobie probably
knew this already ! ) and Aerosmith with additional music for Ratt,
Michael Bolton, Alice Cooper, and others including none other than
Doobies' summer touring partner Chicago.
Now he's defining the hottest sound of the late 1990's
with Ricky Martin and soon will span at least four decades in strongly
influencing popular music. The prolifically consistent success is
rather astounding.
If Pat indeed mentioned an appreciation of Ricky Martin's
music on Rockline, Desmond's touch might be part of the reason.
