DOOBS.....
I've just come down for a while, to post - don't know if anyone else has, as
I'm down at home, and wanted to send this out before I peeked at anyone
elses....
For the last show of the millenium (well, kinda), it wasn't anything except
what you would expect from the Brothers. Well, yeah it was (more about that
in a sec- see below). There were 750 people in the Copa Room who saw 75
minutes of outright, dynamite rock and roll. There may be a new instrument
(John's got a new guitar and fiddle), but the voices are the same, and get
better with time.
Having had a chance to hear the guys play, from the first show to the last
this year, it's been a real treat to hear the sounds come together and get
tighter, to hear Marc hold an audience with his sax, Guy captivating with
the piano and of course Skylark; need anything else be said. Pat, Tommy,
John, Keith and Mike, you guys are the heart and soul and you have never
sounded better. The ladies fell over to Can't Stand To Lose, and one guy
almost fainted when Blackwater finally got played, Road Angel seemed to have
an added amount of Tommy's guitar-after all, it was the last time to play
it, and jammed he did. Little Bitty Pretty One, hell, if you ain't movin
before, you sure were after....and throughout the show, the people who stood
(up) out the most, were the denim clad, yellow ID'd Fan Club members, more
than any of the others. there. They knew the songs, the music and the
lyrics, and let the band know it throughout.
Torrey, you put on a helluva party for the Fan Club. It takes an incredible
amount of work to do what you did, and you did it well.
Nancy and Holly, you made it very special in ways that only sisters
understand. Bill and Ralph, deep and humble thanks.
Now, for the part that you wouldn't expect at a show. I have finally
figured out why I have this sizeable bruise on the outside of my right leg.
It's from where I was banging the tambourine, which had been placed in my
hand, before I was pushed out on stage and up to the mic, in between Pat and
Skylark, to play and sing (yes, sing) the last song of the decade: Listen
To The Music. This also after Pat had made mention of my birthday in front
of 750 people, who were now a total blur in front of my eyes.
To the Doobies, my deep, deep thanks and love for making a lifetime dream
come true - I only hope that I didn't prove to be totally tone deaf.
And, to the Doobie Mom who made it all happen, and she know who she is, my
deep love and thanks for being the mother every little boy would want to
have.
Sorry to be so long - it was a long weekend, and certainly, one that I will
never forget.
C ya
