Hi folks, well I am back from my first Doobie concert in Napier. Wow, is
all I can say, these guys were smokin'!! After meeting Geoff from
Sydney, we got to the Mission at around 4pm, concert to start at 8pm
with Boney M support act. After milling around and grabbing T-shirts and
programmes, we bump into Skylark by the Merchandise tent! He was with
Pat's brother-in-law and the sound engineer, just another face in the
crowd, but not to us. So, after introductions and wishing them a great
show we got seated, ready for a blast. Boney M came on, the least said
about them the better, and then the stage was set, as it were.
The roar of motor-cycles filled the air and the intro to Rockin'
Down The Highway out of the smoke, we were into it!! I'll leave the rest
of the show up to Geoff when he returns home to Sydney tomorrow. I'd
like to add though, that the vocals were outstanding, better than the
original recordings, strong and fresh kinda. John's guitar work,
especially on Don't Start Me To Talkin' ripped through the air like a
sharp knife. Skylark had a problem with his Bass towards the end but,
wow, what an atmosphere.
Thankyou so much to the guys for fulfilling a life-long dream.

We're off to a great start this century folks and I can tell you
people who are going to forthcoming shows, you are in for a treat!!
Outstanding stuff!!

Graeme, NZ.
