Hi all you Doobiphiles, This is semi-Doobie related. Last night I went to see Steely Dan in Denver, an outdoor show at Fiddler's Green Amphitheater. Those guys tore it up!!! I'm amazed at how well their studio-friendly songs translate to a live setting. Ex-Doob Cornelius Bumpus was a standout on sax. And the whole group - horns, backup singers, and rhythm section - were wonderful. Add a summer sunset over the Rockies in the background and you'd have to call it a fairly perfect evening. My lines get blurred when I think about Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. Maybe it's the shared personnel, and maybe it's because of the huge musical gamut that the groups cover as a collective, but they've always been my two favorite bands. Let's see...last week I saw Michael McDonald play. This week was Steely Dan. If I can make it to the Logan County Fair in Sterling, Colorado, in August, I will have completed my summer musical trifecta!
