(Thank you Torrey for the heads up.) Why the Toy Drive? For you newer members. A few years ago the Doobie Brothers would spend a few hours close to Christmas time entertaining the children who were hospitalized at Lucile Salter Packard Childrens' Hospital at Stanford, CA in an effort to bring them some normalcy and happiness during a difficult time in the patients' lives. Many of these patients were wrestling with Cancer. Kathy Nelson, Bruce Cohn Management for the Doobs, also contributed by getting the Toy Drive going. Three years ago club member Peter Dubin helped coordinate and resuscitate the toy drive from Southern California. After the long haul from the Los Angeles area, it was decided that a club member who lived closer to Stanford should take this event over in succeding years. This is where we are today, still in need of your generous support. Laurin Willis would like to give the toy drive a jump start this year via the Saratoga DBFC convention next week.. I don't know if any of you saw the nationwide broadcast for St. Jude's hospital. If you did, you would have seen patient's and their families who are going through some tough times hoping that the treatment for their illness will be cured. St. Jude's was also asking for support. Since the Stanford hospital is near and dear to the Doobie Brothers, we as their fan club are continuing the effort by contributing toys (and items on the list that was previously sent) to help brighten the Christmas season for the children being served at Stanford. I hope this explains what we as a club are doing. Again thanks for your support. The toy drive has begun - we need you to contribute....even one item is sufficient. I do not have an exact date for the close but it is usually mid December. You can either bring a donation with you to Saratoga...TOGA.. TOGA... or send via US Mail to me at my home (please include a packing list with your name and address). The elves and I will be very glad you have chosen to support this club event.
