Well, we had a great time at the Jacksonville show. The Doobies were in fine
form. They played with such energy and had the great pumped up. The venue was
a small intimate renovated movie theater in downtown Jacksonville. I met
Ralph and his wife Wendy from Gainesville Florida at the Hooters at The
Landing along the St. Johns River. After some dinner and great discussion,
plus we found out we had motorcycles in common, we headed over to Florida
Theater. Their was a local opening act but I am sorry to say I cannot
remember her name.
The boys came charging out to the sound of Harley's as usual and did not slow
down for four songs. They also played four straight songs from Sibling
Rivalry and the group really seemed to enjoy them. Especially People Gotta
Love Again and Rockin Horse. The band really seemed to be having a good time.
Tommy, Pat and John McFee really know how to work the crowd with their guitar
solo's. Sklark is the most animated base player and backup singer I have ever
seen. He was all over the stage. Mark Russo does with a sax what Rusty Young
of Poco does to a Pedal Steel Guitar. Having played drums in a band I will
never figure out how two drummers play together and sound as one as Keith
Knudsen and Mike Hossack sound. I was seated in the second row of the
balcony and I can't describe how close the seats were even though is sounds
like they would be far away.
After the show I went down to meet Ralph and Wendy near the front of the
stage and they were talking to Big Mike. And he is BIG Mike Hossack, I never
realized how Big he was. Ralph told him who we were and he commented "nice
jacket" about my tour jacket. One local guy told him that they were getting
some play locally from the new CD. Mike said "We are gonna keep cranking them
out till they play something" We had hoped to me some of the other guys but
Mike said some of them were feeling under the weather and were a little off
tonight. Well, they sure fooled this crowd.
