Several months ago, he was crowned The Master of Soothe for his whimsically
romantic, feathery soft folky lyrics and guitar picking. Countless times,
his singing has soothed me like a lullaby. He can also rock you so hard
your eyeballs rattle! The Master of Soothe's homogenized harmonies put the
Doobie seal on every song he sings in. Nary a lady can stand in his presence
at a concert without being mesmerized by his charm, energy and musical
talent. He is THE ONLY Doobie Brother with a perfect attendance record.
(He's on all the albums!) In my opinion, the Doobie Brothers would be just a
name without him. He is a gentle soul with a heart of gold who doesn't let
his rock star greatness stand in the way of his connection with fans and
worthy causes. I am proof of this, for I, Gina "Cinderella" Dorman, have
had the privilege of talking to him twice. Both times, he was "much obliged
indeed". I was touched when I heard of how he went shopping at Toys R Us
for the little sick kids at the Stanford Hospital; ailing himself with a
sore neck!
Oh songs, how do I love them! Let me count the ways. Blues to the Highway,
Ordinary Man, Don't Be Afraid, Daughters of the Sea, Sweet Feelin
(sigghhhh), Summer Rain, Take Me to the Highway, Tell Me What You Want,
Wheels of Fortune, Black Water, South City Midnight Lady, Dangerous, Clear
as the Driven Snow, Toulouse Street, Cheat the Hangman and so on and
on.---from the sounds of this, you'd think I like him!!! "LIKE", people
(you too, Van Helen!!), just LIKE...
So, happy birthday Patrick Simmons. You will always be my favorite Doobie.
May your life be blessed because of the joy of music you have shared with
the world.
Yours Sincerely,
Gina "Cinderella" Dorman
