Many of you know that the home of the Doobie Liner, The Caribbean Zone
Restaurant in San Francisco has closed its doors leaving the fate of
this historic aircraft to the owner of the building. Amy Bloomberg, (a
new Fan Club member who contacted us when she heard about the sale of
the airplane) has been in touch with the owner to see what could be done
to save our favorite meeting spot from the scrap heap. All along the
owner has wanted to sell it as scrap metal just to get rid of it.
Well I have some great news! The company that is moving into the
building has decided they want to keep the Doobie Liner and use it as
their conference room! I think they are going to renovate the interior
and unfortunately it's going to lose its historic charm, but at least
it's still there.
Maybe we can book their "conference room" for a meeting sometime! ;)
I'll pop in there someday soon to see what's happening with the Doobie Liner.
BTW, I did find an aviation museum here in the Bay Area that was very
interested in the fate of this aircraft. They were looking into
purchasing it. If there's a chance for the Doobie Liner to come up for
sale again, I will work with the Hiller Aviation Museum to make sure
this great piece of Doobie history stays right here in the Bay Area and
doesn't get turned into a toaster...
