I understand where your coming from Andy, but I think the difference your hearing in
the songs is the fact that it is a more "mellow" sound. SR certainly is not the more
rough sound we are used to with the earlier stuff the Doobie's put out, like Long
Train, China Grove, The Doctor etc. The thing that impressed me with the song writing
was how diverse they are. I can sit down with a new Doobie CD and even before the
vocals start I can usually pick out who wrote it.
But this CD was different. I had to read the credits to figure out what was going on.
The songs by Keith and Mike were a very nice addition, it was also nice to hear Keith
singing lead. When Ordinary Man started for the first time, the opening sounded like
an Earl Klugh (jazz guitarist) tune. Very nice!! I don't know if Pat or John played
that part, but it was exceptional and VERY tasteful. I think SR still rocks, just in
a different way. Tommy didn't let us down either with PGLA and 45th Floor! To me, SR
has something for everybody, and as always the percussion is more than top rate, and
the guitar playing is, well, it's what got me playing years ago. As far as reviews go,
they are wrong more than they are right so I don't pay no attention to them any ways.
This CD has everything I need to get me through till the next one! But, 10 years is
a pretty good stretch!! I'll need some NEW ear candy soon, :-) Just my opinion!!

Hello Doobie Brother Lovers,
I have been listening to SR for a long time now, since it's release. I want
to love it like I do Brother Hood and Cycles. The fact of the matter is, I
can't! Sure there are a few good songs on the CD. All in all I think it is
rather a poor cd "song" wise. I said "song wise" not musically! Big Big
difference! Musically the CD is tight as ever, you will have no complaint
from me there! I hope the next CD doesn't take ten years instead I am
hoping ten months!
