Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I’m going to check out Davis Tool via phone
(their employment page may not cover all their needs). And I’m glad that
Silicon Florist is listing more than just web jobs. For a while, it seemed like
all anyone wanted in Portland was front-end/full-stack web devs. I’m trying to
get away from that (been doing it for about 10 years, mostly in advertising).
It’s nice to see that other kinds of development are being used here. If I have
to build one more microsite to sell tortilla chip tacos or gel shoes…yeesh.
As for websites in Github, I don’t have client sites that I can share publicly
without upsetting the ciients, so no, at the moment I don’t have any. I can
share them privately with interviewers, though. I’m not sure how to navigate
that, but I’ll figure something out.
I co-authored this, does it count?
http://www.amazon.com/Special-Using-Caldera-Openlinux-Ratcliffe/dp/0789720582/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411142459&sr=1-1&keywords=special+edition+using+caldera+openlinux
Probably not.
And I wish I had an “in” with a non-web tech company or agency. Unfortunately,
all of my employment contacts in the area are in advertising. They won’t help.
I think I may be on my own, at least for the first stretch of this journey. Not
a big deal. I’ve remade myself before. :)
Thanks again! All good advice.
E.
