I have a semi-portable gantry crane and chainfall hoist I built to move my
lathe when I got it.

If you try to move it the proper way to lift a lathe like that is straps
through the crossmembers between the ways. Use the carriage and tailstock
to balance it out. Never, ever, lift a large with a rod through the
spindle.
