Hi All,
For those of you who use KDE, V 4.3 was released yesterday (see
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.3/index.php). If you use Kubuntu, and you
can't wait until 9.10 comes out in October, they are making it available via
the backports repository (see http://www.kubuntu.org/).
I just did the update and managed it without any untoward problems. I found
that after I had added the gpg key and repository to KPackageManager as
instructed, I had the now familiar 'blocked updates' problem. I fixed this by
typing:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
in a shell, after which I was able to boot into the new desktop. I can't say
with confidence that this will be as seamless for anyone else, but I'm on
leave and it's raining, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. My hope is that
some of the annoyances that are still hanging around in V 4.2 will be fixed in
this version.
There isn't anything obviously different from 4.2 at first, apart from the
fact that many of your desktop configuration settings have to be done again
(eg wallpapers, pager, widgets, etc). However, there were some problems in
4.2 that don't seem to be present any more, plus there are new versions of
quite a few of the standard KDE Apps.
I'll let you know how I get on over the coming days.
