Does anyone know anything about PSPP (http://www.gnu.org/software/pspp/)? The
website says that it:
# Inter-operates with Gnumeric, OpenOffice.Org and other free software.
and provides:
# Easy data import from spreadsheets, text files and database sources.
>From this, I assumed that a .sav file opened in PSPP could then be exported so
that it can be opened and manipulated with OpenOffice. So far, I've had no
luck. The tool does offer Save As to a .por (for portable) format, but I have
yet to discover what it is portable with. I'm assuming that 'Inter-operates'
really means import from a spreadsheet not export to.
The User Manual majors on the statistical analysis stuff and kind of ignores
how to drive the thing, so if you know how to do this, I would be grateful to
learn.
This has come about because my daughter's tutors has sent her a .sav file and
the only (Windows) way to open this seems to be to buy the SPSS program or
download and register a (potentially dodgy) converter. PSPP opens it fine,
but I can't get it out of the specialist format. She has Linux, but it would
be nice if she was able to use the data in other tools.
