I probably know as much as you now, which is that we are discussing Zero Insertion Force and Low Insertion Force devices, where ZIFs have a clamping mechanism to secure a good, accurate connection with the cable and LIFs gently push into to a slot. It /looks/ like the cable is essentially the same regardless of which type you have, although at this point I'd add I'm no expert and that conclusion was arrived at by scanning posts on various forums. Perhaps another way to approach this is to ask which netbook we are discussing?
